A definitely serious blog 🤪
To start, in an effort to humor myself, I’m almost permanently sarcastic. You can find me always messing around in any conversation when someone asks me a question or when someone asks for my opinion. Though in the start it would be quite easy to notice, and others would find humor in my sarcasm, more recently I’ve noticed an increase in the number of people who think I’m serious when saying these sarcastic things. But even then, I still push the sarcasm further than trying to clarify I’m just messing around, it’s a pretty effective way to entertain myself, not gonna lie.
One recent example, while driving through Detroit with my friends, I exclaimed, “Detroit definitely a top 3 city in the US now.” One friend responds, “Oh, wait, ... are you sure though?? What about Miami and LA?” I was Sorta surprised they couldn't tell I was messing around. Instead of ending the fun, I decided to push my sarcasm further, “nahh nahh the ranking is 100% 1. NYC 2. Chicago 3. Detroit.” We ended up going into a debate over this, which, looking back, is pretty damn funny.
But what makes sarcasm funny? If I had to pin it down to one thing, I’d probably say it’s the absurdity/unexpectedness/randomness of it. Even when my sarcasm goes unnoticed, I still find it funny due to the unexpectedness of it not being recognized. Moments where we are caught off guard often lead to the loudest laughs. Seeing people have reactions disproportionate to what occurred is almost universally funny, with a recent rise in popularity even over trynna intentionally get others mad. What makes seeing others get mad funny? Randomness, again. Seeing an unexpected reaction to an event makes for one absurd moment most can't help but laugh at. Stay laughing 😝😜.
